The App will be free in the App store.
There will be no in App purchases.
There will be no mandatory in App purchases. There will be entirely voluntary options to fund ongoing development by in app purchases
The App will remain closed source.

There will be an in App "Tip Jar" or "Buy me a Coffee" link that will link you to a web page where users can optionally send me a few £/p ($/c) on a one off basis.

Put a one off tip in my tip jar

As an individual you can give me sustaining support to be able to spend more of my time on the App by becoming a patron:

Support me on Patreon

@Jeffa ,

Nice! I don't (currently) own any (active) iThings, but I went to Patreon to make a contribution to show my appreciation for your work and to support your choice of business model. However, everything - even a custom contribution - is a "per month" recurring contribution. Obviously, I could choose a recurring plan and then cancel it after it added up to what I had intended to contribute. But I was just surprised there was no one-time option. Do they not allow for one-off's?

I have only used Patreon once before: in support of the a capella country music group "Home Free"

Do they not allow for one-off's?

I am new to Patreon, I looked, but I could not find any one offs.

They seem to support two models, either a "per upload" model that is aimed at people like Youtubers and a per month model, with a minimum of $1. (A third of the price of Lastpass I hasten to add ;))

I am happy to stand corrected of course.

This is why I plan to set up a web-page with a "Tip-Jar" as well to allow for one offs.

Is this a violation of apple's rules? As in you can't link to an external webpage to take a form of payment? Maybe thats only for subscriptions though. I just dont want your app to get banned! Patreon is a great choice though. One other option is to do what my favorite podcast app does (overcast) and offer a "premium" subscription of $15 a year that literally gives you no extra features.

There is an exception for links to a page to make voluntary donations.

3.2 Other Business Model Issues
3.2.1 Acceptable
  • (vii) Apps may enable individual users to give a monetary gift to another individual without using in-app purchase, provided that (a) the gift is a completely optional choice by the giver, and (b) 100% of the funds go to the receiver of the gift. However, a gift that is connected to or associated at any point in time with receiving digital content or services must use in-app purchase.

I take on board what you say they though. Care is required.

If Apple get even the impression that you are trying to do an end run around them then BANHAMMER.

VERY good choice Jeff. I've just created a Patreon account and signed up for a recurring contribution. I don't expect everyone to do so, but I'm being supported by others, too, with SpinRite... so I can. :)

whats the link?

😮 On a GRC forum... BURN!!!!!
It’s actually a pretty great. The developer, Marco, pretty much refuses to play by any of the new, privacy violating rules some of the larger podcast companies are trying to spin up. He actually advocates against providing him your email address. Worth checking out over the standard Apple podcasts app!

Hi,

If you have signed up on the mail chimp (before today) list you should already have an invite for testflight.

If not you will be in the next batch.

App store launch will be when I consider it ready.

Guess I'm in the next batch. Looking forward to trying it. I feel like it's more magical with an App.
