Using Alternate Identity

Just a note that we have a new forum to contain discussions relating to the Wordpress plug-in which Daniel Persson originated and has been making great progress on. You'll find it under "Server-Side Solutions."

Hi --

I've read up about Alternate Identity in the SQRL User Q&A, the Authentication options help file, and the SQRL Explained document, but I am unable to use that feature at either the https://www.grc.com/sqrl/demo.htm or the https://sqrl.grc.com/ site. When I try, I'm taken to a page that says I don't have an account or that the credentials don't match a known account -- it suggests that I make a new account. What am I missing?

Thank you.

Regards,
Robert

You're not missing anything. It's causing you to appear as a new, completely different user, exactly as designed. What else did you expect this feature to do?

My mistake. I didn't follow through trying the entire process. It did exactly as I thought it would, letting me use my primary ID password, but as another user. This is a very good feature.

I think the most likely use for this feature is when a user has two personae on a single site, e.g. an ordinary user, and/or "webmaster". Using an Alternate ID will allow him to login as webmaster when required, but as an ordinary user most of the time.
